weather through portions of the south. a lot of snow across portions of the midwest. one city that didn't see much with the storm system is the city of chicago. we were seeing a lack of snow since earlier in the year. no snow in chicago. we are not seeing any snow already into almost mid december out here. current temperatures behind the storm cold 10 degrees outside of minneapolis 24 in kansas city. the cold air has moved so far south we are lacking at a freezing temperature in san antonio. 29 in dallas. even in new orleans with the current temperature at 46 degrees. as we head into the afternoon hours take minneapolis for instance 19 degrees for a high temperature. in new york city you will see the impact of the cooler air. high temperature 47. we have lirnging showers but across northeast we will continue to see the drying trend and sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours. behind the storm very quiet conditions across the plains. next storm arrives in the pacific northwest as we head into later on today into tonight. >> maria molina thank you very much. we begin with 5@5:00. thr

in the next congress and it is very important. let me say whether we abuilding high-speed rail, inner-city passenger rail, transit services, any kind of infrastructure highways you would not want to build the four lane highway where there are no passengers or vehicles with access that you would not want to build a city transit system where you don't have adequate capacity and passengers to use that facility, the same thing holds true anymore with passenger service. when i heard president obama and this administration, beginning to promote high speed rail, unfortunately most of the money, the $10 billion, does not go for high-speed rail. they chose instead to support almost 150 projects and that number is growing and a lot of that money has been left behind. in fact, most of the money that has been read dedicated to high speed rail has been sent back by states including my state, the state of florida, we had to switch a proposal for high-speed rail, the actual speed was 84 miles an hour. 84 miles for one hour transit the distance of the proposed link in central florida, that is not high spe

: the rebels have taken the fight to syria's biggest cities, battling assad's strong holds, his palace in damascus, while fighters have overrun one of the largest military bases outside the city of aleppo. american officials fear the likelihood of assad using chemical weapons is rising. they say they have proof they've been prepared. we went to meet a man who shares those fears. driving along a dark back country road near turkey's border with syria. he told us that until 2008, he was a chief of staff in the chemical weapons program. he said he worked on the defense side, in charge of preparing troops for dealing with attacks and safety equipment. what specific chemical weapons does the assad regime have? he said they have mustard gas, along with a highly toxic nerve agent, vx, sarin and tabun. the regime has started to fall and deteriorate, he argues. it's highly possible assad will start using chemical weapons to kill his own people. >> i think it's a last-ditch effort and one they don't want to use but are considering it. >> reporter: if the regime crumbles, the u.s. fears the weapon
